It's raining here in the Houston,Texas area. The temp gauge has dipped to about 43 at night to 55 during the day. It might reach a high of 70 degrees on Monday with clear blue skies. Friday found me waiting at a cigar bar for Jim of S.O.T.W. ...so I had my first drink at 11:30 a.m. and waited. I had another drink and waited. I love waiting under those conditions!
What all that means in late February is that the Rodeo is in town! The biggest damn rodeo in the world! It's Go Texan Friday! Most of Houston does not work on Fridays anyway. This day is celebrated by dressing up in cowboy/cowgal attire and having a good time! Ever seen a gal's nice booty confined in a tight pair of Rockies or Lawman's? Well, pardner...that's too bad for you!
The prelims are fested with a carnival. But the premiere activity is the BBQ cook-offs. Make-shift saloons have sprung up everywhere, and except for the asphalt, looks similar to the HBO show "Deadwood." Coca-Cola Cowboys are everywhere, at least I haven't seen any sales tags left on those brand new weathered/distressed dusters! The gals, most of'em look good. Some though, look like Britney Spear wanna-bees....+ 200 lbs...with pink strawed cowgirl hats....
Jim was nice enough to sign me up as an ambassador of the Maker's Mark Whisky Empire. We paid for parking and admission to the event..but admission to the tent and the food and whisshhky was gratis. I did say food didn't I? I meant BBQ---pulled pork, dense beef sausage, 'tater salad..just like my mama made, green beans, jalepenos..and the sauce--whoa,,,all was great! Eye candy was not in short supply...but we did not partake of that! Our concentration was on the shots of Maker's Mark, our cigars, and talking with the others.
On our way out we stopped by to hear the best Kareoke singer in the world only to find out we had just missed her gig! Dammit! I may write about her later.
The Rodeo is in town, the temps are chilly, and it's raining.
Light one up and have drink. I'm doing that very thing right now!
